Safety in the Workplace

Dan Comiskey Photo

Dan Comiskey played football in the Canadian Football League for 12 years, where he was coached by over 40 different professional coaches. All of these coaches were behavior change specialists. They helped Dan become an expert in the fundamentals of habit change.

Dan has suffered multiple concussions, a torn triceps, a torn calf, and a broken leg, all in the last 5 years. Dan’s step-brother died in an industrial accident, and his father in-law suffered a permanent brain injury in an industrial accident less than one year from retirement. Dan has a very personal perspective on the importance of workplace safety.

Dan recently retired from the Edmonton Eskimos, where he was a perennial all-star and a two-time Grey Cup champion. Dan has co-written The Truth About Success and Enduring Principles of Leadership. He is passionate about injury prevention and safety awareness.

Off the field, Dan has spent his entire career honing his skills as a philanthropist and inspiring public speaker. He has been the Honorable Chairperson for both the Canadian Cancer Society and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. He has spearheaded numerous Charity Drives for these organizations, as well as for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. For his work in the community, Dan has been honored twice with the CFL’s Tom Pate nomination. This prestigious award is given for the unique combination of outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to the league and community.

Dan’s involvement as a leader on and off the field has established him as a sought-after speaker nation-wide. The parallels drawn between the corporate world and professional football have given Dan great insight into supervisor coaching and inspired leadership.

Believe me when I say it was all my pleasure!!! I do truly hope we can work together again some time soon, some where. You are an articulate, passionate orator. I am still over hearing conversations about your visit in the Tim Horton’s morning line and in the smoke shacks as well. You really touched some of these guys!!! and me too.”
HSE Specialist SIT, Amec/Colt- Worley Parsons, Shell Albian Sands Expansion 1

“Dan, I would like to thank you for the very moving presentation you put on at Shell Albian Sands. It was very hard to hold back tears in a room full of big tough construction workers. Your passion is very much needed in our profession and I think you hit home to a lot of people. My crews were very thankful to sit in on your session also. Keep up the good work. I tried to shake your hand but the line and the crowd was too big. Stay safe Bro.”
Kerry Hansen, Electrical Superintendent, JV Driver Projects Inc., Albian Sands Expansion 1

“Best speech I’ve ever heard, anywhere, any topic.” Charles Dauphinee, Supervisor, Weavexx

“Dan was a team leader with our organization for years. He never had any trouble speaking from the front of the room when the need presented itself. He was also a terrific speaker at our corporate breakfasts. I highly recommend Dan as a speaker.”
Dan Macioca, GM and Director of Football Operations, Edmonton Eskimo Football Club.
