Most organizations realize they have serious issues to address but lack a systematic approach to identifying, prioritizing and acting on those challenges. The goal of John’s highly interactive Strategic Planning Workshop is to provide a clear direction on the changes your organization need to make to sustain operations while adapting to effectively meet the future needs of future customers.
The objectives of the strategic planning workshop include:

  • Providing your organization or team with a common, strategic understanding of your current situation
  • Develop consensus amongst key stakeholders on future directions that will have a direct bearing on your organization’s products and/or services
  • Lay the strategic groundwork for the organization to move from where you are today to where you want to be in the future
  • Partition, sequence, organize and develop an implementation plan so that the right things get done in the right order in the right way by the right resources
  • Ensure that your customers’ needs are not compromised or interrupted as you transition from the current situation to your desired future.

John’s Strategic Planning Workshop uses a standard, proven planning model called
Change for Competitive Advantage (CFCA), originally developed at XEROX. The key components of this model are:

  1. Vision – identify where you want your organization to be at a future time
  2. Current Situation – assess your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT)
  3. Strategy Development – determine what strategies are required to move your organization from your current situation towards your vision of the future
  4. Tactical Planning - develop specific tactical plans, (with budgets, resources, schedules and deliverables identified) to implement your priority strategies.

John’s strategic planning workshop is a three-step process:

1. Pre-Workshop

  • Meet with your organization to finalize workshop objectives, agenda, and participants
  • Provide guidance to you on facts and data to be collected, summarized, distributed and reviewed before the strategic planning retreat workshop, such as financial performance and other measures
  • Review of the facts and data assembled from your staff
  • Help your administrator and venue manager ensure workshop logistics are addressed in advance.

2. Workshop

  • Finish venue setup, facilitate the workshop and record results. This requires a minimum of one full day; alternatively it can be done over two sessions of four hours each.

3. Post-Workshop

  • Summarize workshop results
  • Convert workshop documentation into a Draft Strategic Plan and return to you.
  • Hold a debriefing with key members of your management team to answer questions and clarify directions and strategies and to prepare a Final Strategic Plan.
  • Deliver a Final Strategic Plan.
